I remember twenty years ago, when I first stepped into the bustling manufacturing plant as a third-party auditor and met Alonzo - a dedicated machine worker on the factory floor.


Little did I know that our paths would intertwine over the next two decades, culminating in a story of personal growth, company success, and the transformative power of quality ISO management.


Today, Alonzo holds the crucial position of Shipping Manager. He’s the last person to see the company’s products before they leave the facility, ensuring they’re packaged correctly and accounted for with precision.


His journey from operator to this pivotal role showcases his sharp eye, dedication, and the opportunities that arise when a company commits to excellence.

Every year when I return for my annual audit, Alonzo greets me with the same enthusiasm: “Every time you come, we get better! I thank you for my job, Ms. Debra! Look at the way this company has grown. You’ve been a big part of pushing this company toward excellence. This is why we’ve grown, and I have my job! With your help, we made a tight system that pushes us to consistently improve.”


While Alonzo’s words are deeply touching, the credit truly belongs to the amazing team at the company. My role has been to help them see what’s important and guide them in implementing ISO 9001 principles. By focusing on the right metrics and processes, they’ve been able to make better-informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.


As Shipping Manager, Alonzo understands the critical nature of his role. He knows that a well-packaged, accurately prepared shipment is the last chance to make a positive impression on the customer. Any errors at this stage can immediately create a negative perception of both the product and the company.


Many factories struggle with errors in the shipping area due to a lack of “mistake-proofing” measures. However, through their commitment to ISO 9001 and quality management, this company has empowered every employee, including Alonzo, to identify and implement error prevention methods.
